SECTION 00 — INTRO

INTRO

levelUP® offers commercial support to ambitious clubs. The following is an assessment of Maidenhead United FC Women's commercial potential with a specific focus on digital sponsorship optimisation, which we have identified as a potential revenue stream based on our analysis.

SECTION 01 — WHERE YOU CURRENTLY SIT

STATUS QUO

Estimated annual digital opportunity cost

£33k–£64k

This is what Maidenhead United FC Women are leaving on the table by not commercialising digital inventory (based on some example packages). For a Tier 4 women's club that is 100% sponsor-funded, this is the gap between current sponsorship income and a structured & sustainable commercial model that isn't dependent on personal relationships and annual renewal conversations.

Maidenhead United FC Women's commercial model has been built on a foundation of physical sponsorship: pitch-side boards at York Road, programme advertising, season tickets, and team building sessions. The men's partnership packages listed on the club website are well-structured for the level with the inclusion of 'social media posts' and 'newsletter mentions' as deliverables shows awareness that digital has value, and the launch of the Marketing & Media Department & creation of digital sponsorship packages (highlights, interviews) demonstrates intent & resource.

But the inclusion of digital assets in women's team packages are not as visible. If digital is included then clearly It is an add-on rather than a priority. Therefore sponsors receiving digital assets are paying a logo rather than a media price. For a 100% sponsor-funded club, the difference between those two pricing models is meaningful in the short- and mid-term.

Other opportunities also exist: Dave Kitson's profile has not been converted into a commercial content asset; women-focused businesses in the Thames Valley has not been leveraged; and the highest ever league finish (5th in 2025/26) has not been commercially activated as a pre-season narrative.

What exists vs. what is being sold

CURRENT DIGITAL ASSET AUDIT

Every Maidenhead United Women digital asset mapped against its commercialisation status. At Tier 4 and with an existing in-house media service, the audit is about identifying which assets are already present and under-priced, not about building an entirely new commercial infrastructure.

Digital assetCurrent scaleCommercialised?Status & opportunity
Instagram (@maidenheadunitedwomenfc)4,055 followers / 2,328 posts. Add-on mention only4k+ followers is a competitive Tier 4 women's football Instagram presence, and 2k+ posts demonstrates consistent, long-running content. Posts are referenced in partnership packages but without defined frequency, reach guarantee, or reporting. The most immediate commercial improvement is defining post frequency per partner tier and delivering a monthly reach report.
Facebook (Maidenhead United Women FC)1,377 likes / 95 talking aboutNo structured productLocal community engagement is strong for a Tier 4 club, but connects with an older demographic. Currently not visibly structured commercially, but potentially included as part of a multi-platform bundle rather than sold with defined post frequency or reach reporting.
X / Twitter (@mufcyorkroadwfc)Active: match day commentary, player news, results. Dave Kitson appointment tweet generated peak engagement.NoActive matchday X content, with the Dave Kitson appointment tweet the most engaged post in recent club history. No sponsor integration currently. Should sit inside a multi-platform matchday wrapper alongside Instagram and Facebook.
Weekly newsletter (subscriber database)Sent weekly to subscribed database. Referenced in partnership packages.Add-on feature onlyThe newsletter is listed as a package feature: 'company name and information in our weekly newsletter.' It is a genuine digital asset but is not sold as a standalone, priced, reported product. A newsletter presenting partner deal is the fastest low-effort commercial improvement available.
Dave Kitson's media profileFormer Premier League forward. Appointment generated national media coverage. Not packaged commerciallyThe single most distinctive commercial asset available to Maidenhead United Women and it doesn't require a channel. A sponsor associated with Dave Kitson's post-match video content reaches an audience defined not just by club following but by his personal sporting profile in Berkshire football. Post-match videos, pre-match previews, training ground content are all produceable with a smartphone, all carrying genuine footballing credibility.
York Road matchday venueHistoric ground with 4k capacity. Women's fixtures played at York Road.Physical board sponsorship onlyYork Road is one of the oldest football grounds in the world, carrying genuine historic character. A match day digital wrapper ('Today at York Road, presented by [Brand]') adds a pre-match social post, post-match reel, and reach report to every home fixture, converting a match day signage deal into a 48-hour digital campaign.
Men's club home highlights (women's fixtures included)Men's Digital Media Sponsorship Pack explicitly covers women's fixtures.Commercially exploited with 1 partner covering both men & women's outputThe women's team's matchday highlight content is already being produced and sold commercially by the men's media operation. The most urgent structural commercial issue in the analysis should be to ringfence women's fixtures as a standalone highlights product sold separately at women's-team-specific pricing.
Men's club newsletter (women's content included)Reaches 4k readers every Friday at a 45.9% open rate offering a shared infrastructure that already carries women's team content.Shared infrastructure, no specific women's partnerThe women's team contributes content to a newsletter generating meaningful commercial income, but a structured women's supplement slot sold to a women's-specific brand would demand more revenue for the women's coffers.

BENCHMARK: WHERE MAIDENHEAD UNITED WOMEN SIT VS. COMPARISON CLUBS

Comparisons drawn from the FA Women's National League Tier 4 peers, clubs that have grown their commercial model from a similar base, and cross-sport comparators illustrating the Berkshire / Thames Valley commercial opportunity.

Club / tierDigital spon. %Key digital assetWhat Maidenhead United Women can learn
AFC Wimbledon Women15–25%Fan-ownership values narrative. Monthly post frequency defined per sponsor tier. Presenting sponsor on all post-match manager content. The direct aspirational model which offers structured digital deliverables inside a values-led commercial narrative. Maidenhead United Women's story (100% sponsor-funded, 12 years at Tier 4, Dave Kitson bringing Premier League experience to a community club) is equally compelling and needs the same commercial packaging.
London Bees12–20%Separate Instagram presence from the men's game including a defined post frequency per sponsor tier.London Bees operate in a higher-profile market, but Maidenhead's Thames Valley catchment is arguably more accessible for a smaller club . The separate women's digital identity is the structural lesson.
Chesham United Women8–12%Tier 5–6 with structured sponsors page. Local Bucks & Berks commercial network. Community connection as primary commercial narrative. The nearest geographic peer also inside the Berks & Bucks FA catchment. Maidenhead's 12x consecutive Tier 4 seasons and Dave Kitson appointment give it a materially stronger commercial proposition than Chesham despite comparable geographic market size. Local commercial networks in Berkshire are accessible with the right pitch.
Maidenhead United FC Menn/aMarketing & Media Dept formed March 2025. 16.2M annual digital impressions. Formal 4-tier digital sponsorship pack. Highlights product projecting 450k annual views (covers women's fixtures). Newsletter: 4k readers, 45.9% open rate. The most instructive and urgent comparator because it is within the same organisation. The men's club has built a sophisticated digital commercial operation in 18 months while the women's team operates several years behind commercially. The gap isn't audience size (men's Step 6 vs women's Tier 4), it is the media and commercial infrastructure. Closing that internal gap via revenue split, newsletter allocation and shared media resource is the single highest-leverage action available.
Maidenhead United Women (current)~5–10% (est.)4k IG followers (active). Weekly newsletter (underpowered commercially). Social posts referenced in packages but not contracted. Dave Kitson appointment not commercially packaged.Baseline. The commercial structure exists for the men's team but not he women's. Taking advantage of the existing infrastructure is the fastest path forward.

ESTIMATED ANNUAL DIGITAL OPPORTUNITY COST

The opportunity cost above is not primarily about creating or selling new products. It is also about re-framing what Maidenhead United Women already have and could sell. The existing men's team partnership packages reference social posts and newsletter mentions but with little reference to the equivalent for the women's team. Those assets are commercial products in waiting. The question is also whether the club's digital assets are priced as media assets (with measurable reach, audience data and contracted deliverables) or as complimentary add-ons to a physical placement. The difference in deal value between the two approaches is the foregone revenue opportunity.

*This figure encompasses three components: (a) the estimated value of digital deliverables that current partners are not receiving and therefore not paying for; (b) the revenue from entirely new digital-only products that do not currently exist in Maidenhead United Women's commercial offering (Kitson content series, newsletter presenting partner, matchday wrapper, 'Building on 5th' campaign); and (c) the re-pricing uplift achievable on the existing partner portfolio if defined post frequency, reach reports and audience data were added at renewal.

CONCLUSION

OUR FINDINGS

The above is an assessment of intel found in the public domain and could vary from the sponsor agreements in place currently or any renewal conversations in progress.

Maidenhead United FC Women have run a Tier 4 women's football programme for 12 consecutive seasons entirely on sponsorship, with no public funding. In 2025/26 the club recorded its highest ever league finish (5th) under Dave Kitson, in one of the UK's most commercially active business catchments. The commercial structure exists across the men's team but not as visibly for the women's team. Every season without contracted deliverables, reach reporting, and audience data is a season in which partners pay logo prices for what could be media products. For a 100% sponsor-funded club, the difference between those two pricing models is the difference between year-to-year survival and a growing commercial base. In our view, the highest-leverage next step is formalising digital deliverables into contracts and reporting on them. This is the single biggest commercial lever available to any club operating on a 100% sponsor model.
